I’m in Portland today after catching a ride with my wedding officiant, Alicia Ostarello of Vow Muse, on the first leg of her cross-country road trip. See, she got over $20K in funding from Kickstarter to be the star of a dating documentary called Fifty Dates in Fifty States, and Oregon was her first stop.
It’s a 12 hour roadtrip from San Francisco.
We had a lot of time to talk about relationships.
Alicia is sort of a dating expert. Well, no “sort of” about it, she professionally writes people’s online dating profiles in addition to wedding vows and other very important words. But, in her personal life, she tends to go for the same kind of guy. The wrong kind of guy. The kind of guy who makes her his whole world, his sole hobby, and wants all of her time. Not what she wants.
Sounds kinda nice to me though. I think that would sound kinda nice to a lot of women. But, I can see wanting a relationship that doesn’t constantly drag you away from what you like doing alone, like working, running (in her case), hanging out with girlfriends and fella-friends. Everyone needs a different relationship balance. It’s a miracle any of us find significant others who have compatible attention needs.
So, how did her Portland date go you may ask? He created a game called “Date-opoly” with a dice and “Community Chest” cards for them to play. You roll the dice, and that’s how many store-fronts you have to go until you go in a shop, and then you have to do something in that shop. How cute is that? Thing about Oregon, is that every fifth shop seems to be an Adult store, which definitely adds a spicy element to the game…
Anyways, I can’t wait to see who else she meets, what she does (stand-up paddle boarding was on Sunday’s agenda in Seattle), and what she learns about this crazy country of ours. And, of course, what she learns about herself.
So, if you’re not doing so already, FOLLOW MY OFFICIANT! as she dates around the country. Hey, we (to-be)married ladies can live vicariously.
Also, if you *know* nice single guys, drop her a note on their Facebook page. She’d love to meet them.
Shout-out to Modcloth Stylists for supplying her AMAZING wardrobe. I want this dress in particular. And this one.

GAH–how genius!! I can’t wait to see what else happens!
