Revealing Rings

So, we had the neighbors over for Mai-Tais last week, and yes, it was a little awkward. Four people sitting down to drinks and conversation with absolutely no idea what they may or may not have in common, other than proximity. But, turns out she’s a foodie who loves to cook and garden even more than I do. And he’s British, which is automatically interesting.

C’mon, it is, isn’t it? You know it is.

They seem like nice people. Well traveled, friendly, brave to come over with nothing to go on but a note. It’s funny what you notice about people when you have literally nothing to go on. Like the mind looks for anything and everything it can grab onto to provide you with information. I found myself staring at her vintage-style wedding ring.

You don’t see really interesting wedding rings very often – one of the reasons I custom-designed my own – and hers was unusually pretty. A center diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds, but delicate enough not to be gaudy, and shaped with a decidedly vintage flair. I wonder which one of them picked it out. Have a feeling it was her.

It’s the ring of someone who is detail-oriented with classic taste, but who isn’t afraid to do things a little differently. Definite potential for friendship there. If you want to see the kind of vintage style diamond ring I’m talking about, this is the idea. Incidentally, this website allows you to design your own classic, contemporary, or vintage style ring with any combination of stones, which is pretty cool! I miss being able to design fancy pieces of jewelry (like my wedding necklace and lotus ring).

What does your ring say about you?

  1. My wedding ring will reveal that I have a job where rings with stones in are not allowed! Sometimes I wonder why I chose this career… I’d like to hope my engagement ring represents me better.

Is it wrong that I also judge people by their engagement rings? Absolutely, right? Mine says classic, traditional, and a little girly–it is rose gold, after all.
